The History Of The Church

Christianity’s Core And Identity

Essentially, Christianity Is A Religion That Centres On Jesus Christ. Both The Act Of Trusting And The Substance Of Faith Are Referred To As Faith In This Context. Christianity Is More Than Just A Set Of Doctrines; It Is A Way Of Life. Also, A Culture, A Collection Of Beliefs And Behaviours That Have Been Passed Down From Generation To Generation Since Jesus First Became The Object Of Religion, Rituals And Artefacts. Consequently, Christianity May Be Seen As A Live Religious Tradition As Well As A Cultural Legacy. The Church, The Body Of Believers, Is The Vehicle Through Which Christianity Spreads.

That Christianity “Focuses” On Jesus Christ Means That It Connects Its Doctrines, Rituals, And Other Traditions Around A Historical Person. This Is A Reference That Many Christians Don’t Want To Maintain Only As A Historical One. Christian Religion Is Historical, Yet The Great Majority Of Christians Place Their Confidence In Jesus Christ As A Person Who Is Also A Contemporary Reality. Despite The Fact That Their Tradition May Contain Numerous Other Allusions To “God” And “Human Nature” Or To The “Church” And The “World,” They Aren’t Considered Christians If They Don’t Focus On Jesus Christ As The Centre Of Their Faith.

While This Concentration On Jesus As The Focal Character Is Straightforward, There Is Also A Lot Of Complexity. Because Of This, There Are Hundreds Of Distinct Christian Traditions With A Variety Of Beliefs And Practises. To Put These Bodies In The Context Of Their Evolution In Different Countries Is To Show How Diverse They Are. There Are So Many Different Ways Individuals May Adhere To This Tradition. They Might Pray And Construct Churches, Or They Can Work Hard To Make A Difference In The World.

As A Result Of This Complexity, It Is Only Natural That Both Individuals Inside And Outside The Christian Tradition Have Attempted To Simplify It. The “Essence” Of The Religion, And Therefore The Concepts That Are Fundamental To It, Or The “Identity” Of The Tradition, And So The Bounds Of Its Historical Experience, Have Been Two Approaches To Approach This.

In The Framework Of Monotheistic Faiths, Modern Researchers Have Identified This Religious Tradition As The Primary Emphasis. Christianity Focuses On Jesus Christ As A Historical Person While Attempting To Be Loyal To The Experience Of A Single God In The World. Polytheism And Atheism Have Always Been Rejected By It.

Christianity’s Religious History Also Includes A Plan Of Salvation Or Redemption, Except In Exceptional Cases. That Is To Say, The Church’s Members See Themselves As Stranded And In Need Of Help. They’ve Fallen Away From God For Whatever Cause, And They Desperately Need To Be Reconciled. Redeeming Or “Purchasing Back” God’s Creations Is Part Of What It Means To Be Saved In The Christian Faith, Which Is Based On A Specific Experience Or Plan That Focuses On That Goal. Jesus Christ Is The One Who Accomplishes Such Redemption.

Historically, The Great Majority Of Christians May Have Never Used The Word Essence To Describe The Fundamental Emphasis Of Their Religious Beliefs, Yet This Isn’t Impossible. One Of The Many Words That Make Up Christianity, The Name Itself Is Greek, And So Only Reflects A Small Portion Of Its History. The Essence Of Anything Is What Distinguishes It From The Rest Of The World And Gives It Its Uniqueness. Greek Philosophers Defined It As Something Essential And Inherent In An Object Or Category Of Things That Gave It Its Character And Hence Differentiated It From Anything Of A Different Kind. As A Result, Jesus Christ Is A Fundamental Part Of Christianity’s Identity And Character.

Even If The Majority Of People Aren’t Interested In Defining The Core Of Christianity, They Still Have To Deal With What The Word “Essence” Means. Being Saved Or Redeemed, As Well As Contemplating And Talking About That Salvation And Its Agent And Its Significance, Is What They Are Focusing On At All Times. In Addition, Those Who Have Focused From Inside The Religion Tradition Have Also Served To Give It Its Identity. You Can’t Talk About A Historical Culture Without Mentioning How Ideal Traits Have Been Debated Throughout Time. Although It Is Possible To Focus On Both Essence And Identity At The Same Time, It Is Important To Keep In Mind That They Are Intertwined.
